"Racing is something that is inside of me. I feel like I was born to race, like it's something I'm supposed to do. When I had to stop racing in the 90s, I felt as if some part of me died inside. Being back in the saddle again and being competitive has brought me back to life again."

A Bittersweet First Round at Anglesey

20 April, 2008 - Anglesey (6-hour) - It was a bittersweet weekend as Supersport 600 Championship winners, Moores Racing geared up to defend their 2007 title, and the new Sweatshop Moores team aimed to changed the 2007 second place into a Championship win this year.

Friday testing went well with the Sweatshop Moores Racing R1 bike being put through its paces by Hugh Brasher, John Paul Scott and Nick Roake all getting to grips with the new circuit. The Moores Racing R6 also had a good day in the hands of Mike Eglington, Jim Agombar and Tony Jimenez.

By Friday's end, not all boded well as Mike had a minor off, the R6 throttle was very snatchey and the R1 front was not full quick release as yet.

But Sweatshop Moores Racing put any fears to rest as they took pole position in the Saturday qualifiers from 2007 Champions GBMoto and the Moores Racing boys qualified third overall and first in class, so a feeling of optimism pervaded the pit and hope reigned that the rain would stay away.

But no. In typical Welsh fashion, the rain came and stayed and in unbelievably cold and miserable conditions, the first rirders in the LeMans start took to the circuit in anger. Both teams had a fantastic start with Jim Agombar taking the holeshot but were overtaken by Sweatshop Moores. After some to-ing and fro-ing with GBMoto, Sweatshop Moores were still in the lead at the first hour with Moores Racing in 2nd position overall.

After 90 minutes Sweatshop Moores was still in front with Moores Racing in front of GBMoto, Throttle Monkey and Team Viking. But fate decided to intervene when Mike crashed at at the entry to Rocket at around 150mph when he lost the front end and the bike barrel-rolled and hit the armco fence taking most of the back of the bike off in the process.

Thankfully Mike got away with a minor injury to his knee but the bike was declared dead and as it was unrecoverable, it was the end of Moores Racing at Anglesey but Sweatshop Moores were still in the lead. Although Team Viking took the lead briefly, Sweatshop Moores regained it and held onto it to take the class and overall win.

So it was triumph and tragedy with Hugh Brasher, John Paul Scott and Nick Roake of Sweatshop Moores taking 25 points and leading the championship and Tony Jimenez, Jim Agombar and Mike Eglington taking nil points and bringing up the rear of the championship. Sweatshop Moores will need to be on top of their game to continue their winning streak and Moores Racing will have an uphill struggle to be ready in time for Snetterton.

But throughout it all, the Pit Team performed impeccably and without them and our sponsors none of this would be at all possible.

See you at Snetterton.
