Testing a Triumph
20.02.07 - KBC sponsored rider, Mike Eglington had a successful weekend testing at Calafat, Spain where he was preparing for the start of
both his sprint racing and endurance seasons.
Eglington will be competing in two new series this year:
the Triumph Triple Challenge 675 Championship and the
HMRC National Endurance Championship, where he will be
sporting his KBC sponsored VR2 helmets.
During the weekend, Eglington tested both the Yamaha R6
and the Triumph 675; the main reason for coming to
Spain. It was his first time out on a dry circuit on the
675 and gave him an opportunity to give a back-to-back
comparison of the two bikes.
Eglington found the 675 to be far more responsive on
handling than the R6, resulting in him having to ride it
far more gently and lightly than the Yamaha.
Performance-wise, he found the two bikes to be almost
identical. Riding-wise, he found that the Triumph needed
quite a few less gear changes than the R6, because it is
lower revving.

The Calafat circuit, used by riders such as Chris Walker
and the Rizla Suzuki team for testing, was very
technical and challenging with lots of unsighted crested
corners and S-bends, rather than chicanes. It was a good
testing ground for the handling of the Triumph, which
impressed 48-year old Eglington.
"The bike is a little bit different from the R6 but was
relatively easy to adapt to," said Eglington. "I didn't
have any problems getting to grips with it and was very
impressed with the handling. I'm looking forward to
competing on it".
Eglington went on to say: "I'd like to say a special
thanks to
TDG
for sponsoring the transportation of the bikes, Tony
Scott of
T3
Racing for organising the testing and bike and
Catalan Sports Bikes for sponsoring the track day".
Eglington is planning to do additional testing in the UK
in the coming months.
