"Racing is something that is inside of me. I feel like I was born to race, like it's something I'm supposed to do. When I had to stop racing in the 90s, I felt as if some part of me died inside. Being back in the saddle again and being competitive has brought me back to life again."

Moores Adopt 47-year old Race

Moore’s of Hemel Hempstead, Yamaha Premier Motorcycle Dealers, has today announced their “adoption” of BMCRC Supersport 600 competitor, Mike Eglington, for the 2005 season.

A brand new 2005 Yamaha R6, along with wheels and other genuine Yamaha racing parts were presented to Eglington along with the best wishes of director Colin Moore.

It was Colin’s grandfather and great uncles that started the successful business in a barn 75 years ago. The company, as it is today, began trading in the Hemel Hempstead location in 1936, is still a family business and now run by the third generation of Moores.

Eglington, aged 46, has ridden motorcycles since the age of 12, competed in more than 250 races and won numerous short circuit and endurance championships. In 1989 and 1990, he competed in the British Championships and was sponsored by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in their first-ever sports sponsorship in 204 years. At the peak of his career, the recession hit and saw HMSO Books unable to continue their sponsorship. At the same time, he was made redundant, causing his racing career to be put on indefinite hold.

He returned to endurance racing in 2000, competing in the KRC Endurance Championship. In 2002 he came 9th overall in the British Supermoto Rookie Winter Championship and in 2003, he raced and won a number of races in the NORA National Supermoto Championship. In 2004, Eglington returned to his first love - short circuit racing - competing in the BMCRC Supersport 600 Championship, a highly competitive series. He became a regular top-5 finisher taking a number of podiums, beating the championship leading Honda on a 7-year old Yamaha to do so.

Impressed with Eglington’s riding skills, Moore’s has not only given him the unexpected bike sponsorship but has asked him to ride with the Moore’s Racing Endurance Team, whose Yamaha R1 is also sponsored by the company. Moore’s was also impressed with Adopt a Racer, a non-profit scheme that helps riders find sponsorship and teaches them the importance of marketing their sponsors in a pro-active way.

Colin Moore said: “We are very excited about the new season and having Mike on board. We are confident the new R6 will give him even more success and we look forward to giving him our support in his quest for the title.” Colin continued: “We are also pleased to be associated with Adopt a Racer and feel this is a worthwhile scheme that more companies ought to become involved with.”

Tony Jimenez, Team Manager for the Moore’s Racing Endurance team said: “We’re delighted about Mike’s new association with Moore’s and Moore’s Racing. We’ve been after him to join the team for years. Although we’ve been impressed with his riding from the start, it will be great to see what he does on two decent bikes.”

Eglington said: “I am at a loss for words. It’s like a dream come true. Racing is something that’s inside of me – it’s just something that I have to do. Having a prestigious company like Moore’s sponsor me in this way is a tremendous boost to my confidence and I intend to give it everything I’ve got.”
