Eglington to race with Coyote
Racing
March 30, 2002 - After a 10-year break
in his racing career, Mike Eglington is to join
Endurance Race Team, Coyote Racing, in the KRC Endurance
UK Endurance Championships 2002.
Eglington rode Endurance and Road Racing from 1981-1990
in 400 cc, 560cc, 575cc and 750cc classes. He was the
Transvaal Endurance Champion in 1981, 1983, 1985 and was
sponsored by HMSO Books in 1989/1990 for the British
Supersport 400 Championship. After a 10-year break, he
returned to Endurance Racing in 2001 as a sub-rider for
Coyote Racing.
The team, made up of Eglington, Shaun Finch and Shelley
Pike, will be competing on a Yamaha YZF R1 in Class C in
the championship. Finch has been racing since 1994 and
Pike since 2000. The team has a 7-strong pit crew, who
will be looking after the bike, rider changes,
time-keeping and photography.
The Endurance Championship is organised by KRC
Motorcycle Racing and consists of five rounds. The races
are 6 hours long, with the exception of The Mike Lewis
8-hour Race, in memory of the Endurance racer who lost
his life in a road accident.
Each race consists of organisation, co-ordination and
teamwork. Normally, each rider will race in one-hour
stints with pit stops in between. The main goal is to
cover as many laps as possible within the 6 or 8 hours,
in order to gain points. The team with the highest
points is crowned the championship winner.
Eglington, after being asked to join the team said, "I
couldn't ask for a better team. Both the riders and the
pit crew are superb and I can't wait to be in the saddle
full-time again."
