Eglington to race in British Winter Supermoto Championship

October 20, 2002  - Following a successful season racing in the KRC British Endurance Championships, Mike Eglington is to take on the British Winter Supermoto Championship.

The series, according to Dave Stewart of Bemsee, "looks set to drag this exciting form of motorcycle sport into the limelight of the best venues in the country".

A Supermoto, the French word for "superbike", is basically the bike - a two or four stroke single cyclinder MX or Enduro bike that is converted for a combination of road and dirt racing.

The rider, called a Supermotard (French for Superbiker) derived its name because of the skill required to race on a mixed surface track. Unlike standard racing, the rider has to combine the two disciplines of road and off-track racing using the same set-up.

Supermoto is something Eglington has always wanted to do as he enjoys both road and off-road racing. "It's a new challenge for me - something I've never done, but am certainly up for."

Eglington will be racing a Yamaha YZ426 four-stroke Motorcross bike which will be fitted with 17" wheels and road racing wet tyres to give maximum all round performance on the mixed track.

Spectator tickets are competitively priced at just £5 for adults and free to under 15s. It will be great value considering the fast and furious action that will accompany the championship.
