"There was a lot of background work that went into this. It was well co-ordinated and quite professionally done, considering it was their first sponsorship. It was great having this level of sponsorship."

HMSO to sponsor motorcycle racer

HMSO Press Release - February 1990

Government publisher HMSO goes to the races this year in their first-ever sponsorship deal.

They will be sponsoring Cambridge-based motorcyclist Mike Eglington throughout the forthcoming racing season.

Mike, who works in computer-aided design, is delighted with the deal. "The HMSO sponsorship will most definitely make me more competitive on the race circuits during 1990. I think this is going to be my best ever season".

Mike will be sporting the recently re-designed HMSO logo on his clothing and on his bike, and is looking forward to taking part in promotions throughout the year.

The move coincides with the launch of a new book, How Safe is you Motorcycle?, which takes you step by step through the MOT. It tells you what the test consists of, why you may fail, and what you can do to put things right. It also highlights just how dangerous bike neglect can be.

Mike hopes that by combining the sponsorship with the book the urgent message "keep your motorcycle in top condition" will be driven home to all riders. "There are currently around 45,000 accidents a year in this country involving motorcycles, but if everyone checked their bike regularly, many of these could be avoided", said Mike.
