Interac 77 praises Eglington
Interac 77 - September 1, 1986
To Whom It May Concern
We wish to place on record that Mike Eglington has raced
motorcycles on a product sponsored basis for our company
since 1984. During this period he established himself as
one of the country's foremost competitors on machines
ranging from 250cc to 750cc's.
In 1984 we obtained the Continental motorcycle tyre
franchise after it had been poorly marketed and promoted
by a succession of disinterested distributors. Eglington
agreed to help us try and re-establish the product on
the race tracks as competition success is regarded as
the acid test in the launching of new products.
Extensive tyre testing was conducted at Kyalami, Welcom
and Zwartkops race tracks under supervision of
Continental's R & D personnel from Hanover. Eglington's
accurate and objective feedback during these tests
established him as an excellent development rider who is
not afraid of long hours of hard work.
Eglington's race successes on tyres formulated after the
test sessions resulted in immediate acceptance of the
product in the market place. He was a consistent winner
throughout 1985 and seldom placed lower than second in
sprint races. In the series of four 6-hour endurance
races in 1985, Eglington's ability to lap consistently
at high speed for long periods without loss of
concentration resulted in his winning three of these
events outright with only marginal assistance from his
co-rider who was unable to spend extended periods on the
bike due to cramping. In the course of winning these
races, Eglington again agreed to utilise new products
imported by our company, and we largely attribute the
success we enjoy in marketing Silkolene lubricants, SBS
brake pads and KCM drive chains, to his efforts.
In terms of return on investment, Mike Eglington has
exceeded all expectations as he has proved to be
extremely loyal to ourselves and his current and
previous sponsors. His promotion on a personal basis of
the products he uses produces immediate results as his
integrity is never questioned by fellow competitors who
all hold him in high regard. If, at some future date, we
are able to afford full sponsorship of a rider,
Eglington would be our first choice.
Yours faithfully,
R.A. Earl
